Every year, thousands of solar panels are decommissioned long before the end of their usable life. Instead of letting them go to waste, we’re giving them a second life—powering BIPOC-owned farms, community microgrids, and regenerative agriculture projects.
Through agrivoltaics, solar microgrids, and innovative partnerships, the Second Life Solar Initiative transforms discarded solar panels into a force for clean energy, economic empowerment, and environmental restoration.
We are committed to:
✅ Repurposing Decommissioned Solar Panels to extend their lifespan and reduce waste.
✅ Powering BIPOC-Owned Farms & Brownfields with accessible, low-cost solar energy.
✅ Integrating Agrivoltaics to grow food and regenerate land beneath solar panels.
✅ Creating Green Jobs & Education Pathways through hands-on training and mentorship.
✅ Building Community Resilience by supporting farms, microgrids, and local food systems.
Work with Electra to identify decommissioned solar panels suitable for reuse.
Conduct electrical and efficiency testing before deployment.
Prioritize BIPOC-owned farms and Brownfield sites for solar deployment.
Design off-grid solar microgrid solutions with PowerOn for energy storage.
Collaborate with DC Power Plants for system maintenance and performance tracking.
Establish pilot projects in partnership with local farms, schools, and festivals.
Organize hands-on workshops on solar installation and maintenance.
Develop educational content on the benefits of agrivoltaics and solar repurposing.
Track energy production and soil health improvements with Mother Land Farms.
Assess economic benefits for farmers using solar-powered systems.
Expand the model to more sites, scaling via partnerships and grant funding.
Collaborating with Electra to source and test decommissioned panels.
Working with Revolve Solar to install and maintain these panels.
Extending the lifespan of solar technology, reducing waste in landfills.
