Shark Garden’s has secured funding to create two off-grid solar systems to showcase renewable energy, power garden events, and increase food production. These microgrids will be used to power irrigation pumps and timers, greenhouse fans and heaters, an agricultural robot called a Farmbot, two vertical grow towers, an air-to-water generator, outdoor movie nights, community events, an outdoor kitchen area with cooking demonstrations, lighting, security cameras, and a future incinerating toilet. We are creating an educational green energy hub for the community and students, as well as generating electricity, food, and water on the land. This garden showcases the nexus of food, water, energy generation, and education.
Shark Garden’s members collaborate with Sphere Solar, a black-owned company, to build these systems. We successfully installed the first system and are preparing to install the second system. We have already obtained funding for this project from the Port of Seattle and King Conservation District, totaling $41K. Thanks to SparkNW, we now have the remaining $22K to complete the project. The funds will be utilized to obtain additional solar panels and battery capacity, and to fund Sphere Solar’s skilled labor to install complete systems.

Solar Micro-grid Designers & Installer
Sphere Solar has been leading the way in designing the micro solar system. They have utilized their talents and skill to design a system that can meet the needs of the community.
National Solar Supporter
B.O.S.S is a national organization of BIPOC owners of energy disturbtions. Sphere Solar and Key Tech Labs founders are member of B.O.S.S. The Board member of B.O.S.S have shown there support for this Washington based and arigiculture soalr project. B.O.S.S also set up a vendor table and presented at this years 2023 Burien Solar Punk Festival which is held at the garden every year.
Land Stewart
Shark Garden is an urban garden. The new electricity allows us the power to our stage for more outdoor events.
Project Developer & Administrator Support
Omnidian is a corporate partner that has been helping to develop documentation and administrative labor that our collaboration needs. The solar design subcommittee helped to develop the 1st design draft for this model of the solar microgrid. Omnidian is also planning on helping to monitor the 2 solar microgrids, helping to make sure the system is always on and producing energy.
Fiscal Agent and Project Lead
Key Tech Labs is a BIPOC run local nonprofit organization with 501(3)c status that will be the fiscal sponsor for this project.
Digital Content Creator and host of green tech educational tours and the ones that created a 3D model of the system and a virtual reality experience of the systems. We create the virtual model so we can share the solar system to other communities that might also be interested in similar systems.
