The Shark Garden has successfully secured funding to develop two off-grid solar systems designed to showcase renewable energy solutions, power garden events, and enhance food production. These microgrids will serve multiple functions, including:
This project aims to create an educational hub for green energy, allowing the community and students to learn about sustainable practices while generating electricity, food, and water on-site. The Shark Garden demonstrates the intersection of food, water, energy generation, and education.
Project Name: 2nd Solar-Powered Urban Garden
Location: 614 SW 120th St, Seattle, WA 98146 (New Start High School)
System Sizes:
1st system: 3 kW (DC)
2nd system: 3.2 kW (DC)
Estimated Annual Solar Generation: 7,274 kWh
Number of Events Supported by the Microgrid: 25
Total Funding Secured: $63,000
Funders: Port of Seattle, King Conservation District, SparkNW
Purpose: To procure additional solar panels, increase battery capacity, and compensate Sphere Solar's skilled labor for system installation.
The second solar microgrid system will be installed next to the stage (#3 on the Shark Garden map), further supporting garden events and educational initiatives.
